Investment Choices - Introduction

Before joining DC Choice you need to decide how you want to invest your pension savings.

DC Choice offers two investment options LifeStyle and FreeStyle.  With LifeStyle, your account is automatically invested for you - so you do not have to make any further investment decisions.  LifeStyle is based on the general principle that your investment needs change as you approach retirement.

With FreeStyle, you choose how your account is invested from the DC Choice fund range.

Keeping track of investments

Saving for your retirement is a long-term commitment and your money is likely to be tied up in investments for quite some time.  So whichever investment option you choose, it's important you keep a close eye on your investments.

Even if you choose the LifeStyle option, you should monitor your investments on a regular basis to ensure you are saving enough for your retirement.  If your investments are not providing the returns you need, you may want to boost your savings by increasing your Core Contributions or by making Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs).

  • Your investment returns are detailed on your annual account statement, which the Administrator will send to you once a year.
  • Fund factsheets are also available to help you monitor your investments.  These are produced every quarter. 
  • A simpler way to keep a close eye on your investments is to register with BlackRock (available through www.mbplcpensions.com or www.blackrock.co.uk/pensions/mitchellsandbutlers). 
  • You can view the latest fund factsheets and a statement showing the value of your investments over a period of your choice online.
  • If you are a FreeStyle investor, BlackRock also helps you to manage your fund online.
